The letter "V" in my A to Z Video Game Art Challenge is reserved for Von Kaiser from Nintendo's 1987 hit, Mike Tyson's Punch Out.
Something about this game really pulled me in as a kid. It was before you could just look up the strategy online and you just had to go into each fight knowing you would get beaten over and over again until you puzzled out the moves and patterns for each fighter. It was so thrilling when you finally overcame a difficult fighter who kicked your butt so many times as you studied their move set. Looking back, I think this is the same thing that makes Dark Souls my favorite game series. There's just something so immensely satisfying about beating the opponent, not because you mashed buttons, but because you studied his moves and flawlessly reacted to all of his attacks.
